Vista how to access fathers pc remotely

Note: I used Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit for this tutorial, please make sure you understand the security implications of enabling this setting.

I will cover more on this topic in future articles. Click on the Orb and right-click on My Computer , select Properties from the drop-down menu.

Note: If you receive the warning above when you enable Remote Assistance you may need to configure Windows Firewall to allow Remote Desktop to bypass the firewall, if this is the case follow the instructions below —. If your parents use their ISP email address, try and convince them to switch over to a centralized email account. Gmail is a great choice because they do a good job filtering phishing and SPAM emails. If your parents ever decide to change ISPs they will still have access to their email.

Once they have a Gmail account they can take advantage of Google Drive, a free cloud storage solution that syncs with their computer once installed.

In the event the computer goes down, they will still have their data offsite that they can access from any computer. You can still transfer files to their computer using TeamViewer, but it will be more convenient if there is a second browser available to get to the Web. Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox are both great options for a secondary web browser.

In a worse case scenario, you can reimage the computer remotely using a program called Macrium Reflect. You can learn how to setup a disk image here using the free version of Macrium Reflect.

It involves making a compressed disk image of the C drive that you can store on an external drive or elsewhere on the computer. Using the instructions, you will create bootable media that allows you to select and restore the image you create.

If they primarily use their computer for browsing the web, checking emails and doing light word processing, they can likely get away with a Chromebook or tablet. A Chromebook is a laptop running the Chrome OS. Parallels Access is another good, polished alternative. It really shines when accessing your desktop from a smartphone or tablet, providing a more touch-optimized interface.

You could also skip the polished, all-in-one solutions entirely. To avoid mucking through a remote desktop session, your best bet is an easy-to-use remote control solution with an integrated file-transfer option.

The Android, iPad, and iPhone apps also have file-transfer support, so you can download files from your PC to your smartphone or tablet. The average PC user will probably want to stick with a cloud storage service instead of a remote file access solution. Office Online is completely free. OneDrive is integrated into Windows 8.

Office for iPad provides a more powerful editing experience on the iPad , but note that all the mobile apps require an Office subscription for editing viewing is free.
